Sultan the Dog Announced!
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Aug 07, 2018 at 04:32:02 PM

Urbi et Orbi!

O, Pious Congregation! Today is the day of the never-fading glory! We've managed to collect enough money to carry on with the production! And even more than that: we have the whole nine days left to raise some extra gold pieces, which is always a pleasant bonus whether in real life or on a "Deus Lo Vult" board. In the latter case, we have one good boy to help. Who is he? Who is a good boy?

He is!
He is!

Meet the ultimate good boi of this game - Sultan the Dog! His favorite game is "Fetch!" and he fetches what his master loves the most - gold.

  • Tap Sultan the Dog to find one extra gold piece in a City Quarter.

Sultan's keen sense of smell also helps him to find treats. He always returns to the camp when he smells something yummy!

  • Untap Sultan the Dog for free whenever the Surgeon amenity is being tapped.

Sultan harbors a long-standing dislike for Bishop the Cat and always chases him off the camp.

  • Tap Bishop the Cat whenever someone untaps Sultan the Dog.
You can find Sultan in a camp, playing with his best friend - Roger the Surgeon

The Gilded Crusade
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Aug 07, 2018 at 02:58:17 PM

Lend me your eyes, O Noble Congregation! How would you like this? Does it start looking somewhat of opulence now?

The Refugees
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Aug 07, 2018 at 12:54:25 AM

Not everyone at war is a soldier. Every military conflict drives thousands of civilians away from their homes, making them look for shelter elsewhere, and Crusades weren't an exclusion in this regard.

The Refugees
The Refugees

Whenever Crusaders pillage a City Quarter to the ground and strip all valuables off it, the Quarter Token must be flipped reverse side up, presenting the aggrieved and harbourless Refugees.

Refugees in the Camp
Refugees in the Camp
  • Refugees appear when a City Quarter is thoroughly plundered.
  • You can move the Refugees under the regular movement rules with one exception: they can follow both Crusader and Saracen bands and thus can move during both turn phases.
  • Refugees can't end their moves on Saracenian tents.
  • Player can't move the Refugees who stopped at his camp tents (but can move them off the other camps).
  • Player can't use tents occupied by the Refugees to deploy units or place Amenities.
  • A Crusader unit could kill the Refugees, but killing a defenseless civilian is no doubt an abominable deed. Committing such a grave sin will immediately send a murderous token right into the Hellmouth of the Purgatorium, while a Refugees token returns to the City Quarters deck.

Stay tuned for more updates coming tomorrow! Deus lo Vult!

The Personal Issues
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Aug 07, 2018 at 12:22:27 AM

Urbi et Orbi!

This is the largest and probably the most enjoyable Stretch Goal Reward of all we have for now. This pack will bring onto your game board table some weird yet funny kind of Rube Goldberg machine of game-design to spice up the mathematical symmetry of strategies that "Deus Lo Vult" inherited from his noble oriental ancestors.

We are adding two unique Heroic Persons for each army: Philip IV, Louis IX, Richard the Lionheart, Elanor of Aquitania, Frederic I Barbarossa, Duke Leopold V of Austria, Olivier lo Templier and El Cid - all in one incredible powerpack! All of these already has been playtested on prototype and Alex already started sketching first of them!

Kingdom of France

Philipp IV - King of France, known for his suppression of the Knights Templar and his mysterious death in the aftermath.

Philipp IV - King of France
Philipp IV - King of France
  • His special abilities are to kill Templars and to "borrow" their gold.
  • Whenever the Grand Master of the Temple is sent to the Purgatory, Philipp IV must follow him right away even if he had no wounds at the moment given.

Luis IX the Saint - one of the most unlucky crusaders. In Seventh Crusade, exhausted by constant diarrhea, he lost the Battle of Fariskour and was captured by Saracens, to be freed later together with 12,000 other French prisoners, for an enormous ransom: 36,500 kg of gold, the city of Damietta and the pledge not to return to Egypt again. Twenty years later Luis IX broke this pledge and returned with Eighth Crusade – only to die eventually from same diarrhea in less than two months.

Luis IX the Saint
Luis IX the Saint
  • His unique ability is to ransom souls from the Purgatorium.
  • Whenever Cholera Divine Will Cards is played, Luis IX dies instantly, but the rest of the French army remains unharmed.

Angevins

Richard I, known as Richard the Lionheart because of his reputation as a great military leader and warrior. During the siege of Acra, Richard ordered to massacre 2,700 prisoners because he didn't want to be burdened by them. He fought endless battles but found his death while besieging the puny and virtually unarmed castle of Châlus-Chabrol, being shot in the neck with a crossbow bolt by a ridiculous poor knight who reportedly had a frying pan for a shield.

Richard the Lionheart
Richard the Lionheart
  • The outstanding fighter, Richard presents Skull icons on every side of his token.
  • Any ranged unit would kill Richard with a single shot instead of wounding him first.
  • Richard can't end his moves next to a city (otherwise, he'll receive a wound).
  • Richard can drive the Refugees away from his tents.

Elanor of Aquitania was one of the most influential and wealthiest women in western Europe during the High Middle Ages. She was queen consort of France (1137–1152) and England (1154–1189), led armies several times in her life, and was a leader of the Second Crusade. Her token presents three hearts and one shield on its sides; thus Elanor cannot perform ranged or melee attacks, but she has her own unique ability.

Elanor of Aquitania
Elanor of Aquitania
  • Being tapped, Elanor changes her colors to French ones and becomes able to adjoin French units to her band and use them just like her own during her turn.

Holy Roman Empire

Frederic I Barbarossa, whos reign added word "Holy" to Roman Empire name. Prominent military practitioner and theorist of his time, he contributed a lot to the development of heavy cavalry. Frederic fought countless battles and campaigns, in one of which he was forced to disguise in a commoner's dress and make his way home on his own to flee from his victorious rivals. On other occasion he was thrown off his horse and believed to be dead, causing the imperial troops' panic and retreat. His entire army was wiped by a plague once in 1167.

Frederic I Barbarossa
Frederic I Barbarossa
  • the only Cavalry unit that can use Charge ability on a first move
  • whenever he is killed, all HRE units on board must immediately retreat to their camp dropping the loot.
  • whenever Plague Divine Will Card is played, all HRE units on board die and go to the Purgatorium
  • can move as a single unit while being wounded

Duke Leopold V of Austria - renown for his quarrel with Richard the Lionheart resulted in Richard's capture and imprisonment. During the siege of Acra, Leopold put his banner on a wall captured by Richard forces. Enraged Richard ordered to remove Leopold's flag and throw it to the latrine. This insulted duke so much that he abandoned the crusade and wrathfully left for his Austrian home. Later, his vassals captured the Richard on his way home and held him for the ransom of 35,000 kilograms of silver.

Duke Leopold V of Austria
Duke Leopold V of Austria
  • Whenever the Angevins take the last coin from a city, Leopold V could be tapped to seize the eventual Amenity instead of the Angevins.
  • Leopold V can attack Richard to grab a coin from his camp.
  • Angevins can tap a Latrine Amenity Card to immediately send Leopold to his citadel.

Crown of Castille

Olivier lo Templier was a Templar Chaplain at a service of the Crown of Castille.

Olivier lo Templier
Olivier lo Templier
  • Olivier has all the abilities and traits of the Knights Templar Chaplain unit and can adjoin the Templar units to his band the same way Queen Elanor adjoins the French units.

El Cid - a Castilian nobleman and military leader of extraordinary martial abilities, with a reputation of an outstanding battlefield commander. Legends tell that when El Cid eventually died from wounds in his tent, his wife Jimena concealed this fact and ordered that the corpse of El Cid be fitted with his armor and set on his horse Babieca, to bolster the morale of his troops. In several variations of the story, the dead Rodrigo and his knights win a thundering charge against Valencia's besiegers, resulting in a war-is-lost-but-battle-is-won catharsis for generations of Christian Spaniards to follow.

El Cid
El Cid
  • El Cid is a unique Horseman unit that won't leave the board even in death. Being wounded and therefore turned reverse side up, El Cid stays in service for as long as the Crown of Castille will need it. He can't be killed and sent to the Purgatorium as any other unit. Instead of that, he follows his band indefinitely until the player withdraws him from the board back to the citadel to revive. Apparently, he's unable to take or carry coins or Amenities in his cold dead hands.

Stay tuned for more updates to come! Deus lo Vult!
